Waters P2 on Friday at Newcastle
Cameron Waters (No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang) has led Tickford Racing on Friday at the Newcastle 500, posting the second-quickest lap in Practice 2, just 0.0057s from the lead time on the afternoon.

Despite a pair of top 10 results in Practices 1 and 2, newly re-signed Lee Holdsworth (No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Mustang) believes there is more pace to find, both in the set up of the No. 5 Mustang and also in himself.

After leading the team in eighth in Practice 1, Chaz Mostert (No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang) placed 13th in Practice 2, as drivers searched for grip around the 2.64-kilometre street circuit.

Citing a set up direction that did not yield results in Practice 2, Will Davison (No. 23 Milwaukee Racing Ford Mustang) believes that data recorded from the day will help set the Milwaukee Racing team up for a better run on Saturday.

The Newcastle 500 continues Saturday with Race 31 qualifying at 10:50 a.m. AEDT, followed by a Top Ten Shootout at 1:15 p.m., and the 95-lap Race 31 at 4:15.

"We're still not quite there with the set up. We started the day a long way out of the window, and I think we ended the day much closer to the window, which is positive. We've got a direction, and we'll keep chipping away at it for tomorrow. There's still a little bit left in the car, still a little bit left in me, and we'll see where we end up."

Practice 1: 1m11.68s, 18th
Practice 2: 1m10.32s, 2nd
"Practice 1 wasn't that great for us, really struggled braking my car, just very hard to get the lap out of it, I think the pace was thereabouts. We made a few good changes between the sessions and it kept evolving through practice. It was pretty good at the end, like Jamie (Whincup) said, it's tough out there, and there's probably a lot of other people that could have done better laps, but I think we can keep chipping away at it, and we can be up there."

Chaz Mostert
Practice 1: 1m11.09s, 8th
Practice 2: 1m10.63s, 13th
"A fair bit of work to do, just trying to understand the car. We've got some good things going for us, but at the same time we're searching in other areas, so we'll throw a few things at it overnight and see what we get from it. There are some positives in it, we just need to squeeze a bit more out of it. We'll try harder tomorrow, see what we can learn, and go from there."

Practice 2: 1m10.89s, 18th
"From our case we had a tough day. We really struggled with the balance and the bumps here, and I think across our four cars we certainly got a lot of info for tonight. We went quite a different direction with our car, and we certainly went the wrong way, but I'm confident we'll be a lot better tomorrow."

Tim Edwards, Team Principal
"Cam did well to put in a strong lap at the end, but today wasn't a great start to our weekend. The track evolves very quickly here, and the conditions changed quite a bit today so the target moved a lot. Obviously we have a lot of data to draw from, so we'll lean on that a bit tonight and look to come out with much stronger cars for qualifying tomorrow."
