Waters rises to third in SuperNight finale
Monster Energy Racing's Cameron Waters (No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang) notched his fourth podium of 2019 on Saturday at the Perth SuperNight, finishing third in Race 12. It is the eighth time the 24-year old has stepped on the podium, now in his fourth season full-time in the category.

Will Davison (No. 23 Milwaukee Racing Ford Mustang) was forced to make an early first pit stop due to what was a slowly delaminating left rear tyre, and despite running as low as 22nd, battled back to an eighth place finish thanks to strong pace and durability late in tyre stints. It is Davison's tenth top ten finish from 12 races to start the 2019 season.

After qualifying 22nd earlier in the day, Lee Holdsworth (No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Mustang) used an effective strategy and strong race pace to climb some 13 spots in the 84-lap race, finishing ninth for the second time on the weekend.

Chaz Mostert (No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang) had aspirations of back-to-back podiums after qualifying third for Saturday's race, but a failure in an engine component led to the Queenslander's early exit from Race 12, retiring after 27 completed laps. It is Mostert's first DNF in over a year, and drops him to fifth in the championship standings.

One-third of the way through its 15 event season, the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship continues May 25-26 at the Winton SuperSprint in regional Victoria.

"I'm really glad we were able to turn it around tonight. The car was very difficult to drive in quali, I couldn't put a lap together and ended up down the back of the grid, but just like last night the car was much better in the night. I was able to pick off cars pretty early, our pit strategy got us a few more spots, and the car looked after its tyres quite well so I was able to get a couple more cars at the end. It's a good way to finish the weekend, now I've just got to figure out how to qualify up near the front so we're not spending races trying to get through the field.

"I'm absolutely rapt. Of late I guess I've had a little bit of bad luck, with the cool suit (at Adelaide), and then thing with Shane (van Gisbergen) at Phillip Island, and then with Scotty (McLaughlin) at the Grand Prix as well, so it's really good to obviously put that all behind us, get a podium. It's good for Chaz to get a podium yesterday, it's good for Tickford in general, I think, to be close to the other guys up the front and getting trophies again."

"What can you do? Obviously it's very disappointing to have a mechanical, have something out of your control happen when we could have been on for a podium tonight. The car was pretty good, obviously we qualified on the front two rows again, and when you're in a good position like that you need to capitalise. Unfortunately we just had some bad luck tonight, it'll hurt quite a bit in the championship, but that's motorsport. We'll get back to the workshop and the boys will dissect exactly what happened, and we'll tune it back up for Winton."

"Obviously I'm disappointed, but we're out of jail, simple as that. We had an issue from fairly early on in the first stint. I thought something had gone amiss, but it was actually the left rear tyre delaminating, and we had a huge issue with the left rear tyre, and that forced us in very early, and then we took on a lot of fuel to double check the car. We were 22nd after that, but we came back strong. The Safety Car came at the worst time for me, because we were going to jump two or three more spots, but the car was good in the last stint, we just had to get through the train. The car was quick at the end of the race, and we salvaged eighth. It's a bit of a missed opportunity, but great job by the team, great job by Cam, and a great job by everyone at Ford for bouncing back in style this weekend."

Rod Nash, co-owner
"We're thrilled to have Cam back on the podium, he's had a couple get away from him this year so it's great to see him lift a trophy tonight. Will and Lee did tremendous jobs coming through the field, and obviously just hard luck for Chaz, this sport does those things sometimes. Overall though, seven top tens and two podiums from two races is a very good result, and we look forward to going for more at Winton."
