It was 20 years ago ...
The darkest weekend in F1 ... the San Marino F1 GP at Imola.
Friday practice resulted in a major crash for Rubens Barichello, a busted arm (amongst other injuries) putting him out for the weekend ...
Saturday qualifying would see the loss of Roland Ratzenberger, the forgotten one.
Sunday's race and unbelievably, the world's greatest F1 driver, Ayrton Senna would lose his life after a sickening accident at Tamburello.
Disbelief, even after all these years, is still my over-riding memory of that dark weekend.
Not since the 60s & 70s had Formula 1 known such tragedy, the difference in 1994 was that the event was being beamed live into millions of homes around the world.
Just wondering whether anyone is aware of any investigation by the Italian authorities into the death of Roland Ratzenberger?? As I recall they were rather vociferous in their condemnation of all things Williams in relation to Senna's death and kept telling "us" that all "unexplained" deaths in Italy would be investigated fully ... what I wouldn't give to read their report on the death of Roland Ratzenberger ...
May Roland & Ayrton race in peace xx
